Lt Col Hardeep Singh Bedi is an ex-army man, an Entrepreneur and the Chairman & Managing Director of Tulip Telecom Limited.,[1] a Telecom company based in India. After serving the Indian army for 22 years, Lt Col HS Bedi took voluntary retirement and joined Tulip Telecom, then Tulip Software Pvt Ltd, in 1994.
Today, Lt Col H S Bedi is a well-recognized business leader in the IT and telecom industry and has vast experience in this field.[2]

Lt Col H S Bedi was born in a family with a three generations old tradition of joining the Indian Army. His family was originally from a small town near Amritsar called Dera-Baba-Nanak, but since his father was in the army, so he was posted at different cities from time to time. His schooling was also done in different parts of the country. After completing his schooling, he joined National Defence Academy in 1969, and was commissioned in the 72 Armoured Regiment of the Indian Army. Lt Col H S Bedi developed his IT skills at Army’s Faculty of Computer Technology at MCTE, Mhow, post which he was appointed as an instructor there. Col Bedi, during his initial days got an opportunity work on certain technology solutions for the then Chief of the India Army Headquarter directorates. After this, he was posted at the Army Headquarters to work on the Army’s automation plans.
Lt Col H S Bedi has served the Indian army for about 22 years and later he recognized his entrepreneur skills in the field of IT. He took a voluntary retirement from the army and started his own company. His entrepreneur skills helped the company gain profitability and attain success in all industry segments. Col Bedi started off the company with 4 employees in New Delhi as a software reseller. Later the company explored the field of Network Integration and implemented World’s largest wireless network in Mallapuram, Kerala.[3] This was a key milestone in Tulip’s history. The company explored the field of wireless and developed India’s largest MPLS VPN network.
Under his leadership, Tulip Telecom has established itself as one of the strongest data connectivity players in the industry. Tulip has won the Frost & Sullivan Growth Leadership Award for Enterprise Data Services (MPLS VPN) in 2009 and Market Leadership Award for MPLS VPN in 2007 and 2008.[4] The company has achieved enviable success within a short time span, with revenues of over Rs 2400 crores (USD 600 million) and employee strength of over 3500.
Col Bedi is a thought leader in the telecom domain in India and is on many industry panels and associations. He recently launched the Telecom Special Interest Group for The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE). He is also active on the World Economic Forum and recently spoke at the Dalian 2011 World Economic Forum meeting of the New Champions held in China.
